The African Street Journal

About

The African Street Journal is an independent daily digest of news from all 55 African countries, written for readers on the continent and in the diaspora.

How the desk works

Every morning an automated desk reads public news feeds from outlets across Africa, groups reports of the same event, and ranks them for public importance: elections, budgets, courts, health, food, power, jobs, trade and security come first. Gossip, sponsored copy, opinion columns and tabloid items are filtered out.

Each selected report is rewritten into a short original summary by an AI language model, working only from the facts in that report. Software then checks every story: figures must appear in the source, the story must name and link the outlet it came from, and anything that fails is dropped rather than published.

Stories are summaries, not original reporting from the ground. The outlet that broke the story is always credited and linked; please read and support them.
