An extraordinary meeting of the FNLA's Central Committee has voted to remove President Nimi a Simbi, citing internal conflicts and alleged statutory violations.
An extraordinary meeting of the FNLA's Central Committee, convened by over half its members, has voted to remove President Nimi a Simbi. The meeting, which reported a 52% quorum, also resolved to hold an extraordinary congress on October 30-31, 2026, to address internal divisions within the political party. The committee also decided to denounce the alleged illegal movement of provincial and municipal commissioners from the National Electoral Commission (CNE) affiliated with the FNLA.
Nationalist Ngola Kabango supported the call for new leadership, stating that the current moment is decisive for ending indiscipline from President Nimi a Simbi, whose mandate officially ended on September 21, 2026. The Central Committee recommended that the preparatory commission for the VI Ordinary Congress continue its work within the framework of the newly convened extraordinary congress.
However, the FNLA leadership has dismissed the decision, contesting the alleged removal of Nimi a Simbi from the party presidency. The promoters of the extraordinary meeting stated that it was called to respond to internal conflicts and the existence of two factions within the political formation.
Why it mattersThe FNLA's internal political struggle and leadership change directly affect party members and those involved in its electoral processes.
