A government mission observed agricultural advancements and challenges faced by youth volunteers in Bondigui, aiming to boost food self-sufficiency.
A mission from the Presidential Initiative for Agricultural Production and Food Self-Sufficiency visited the Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP) agricultural sites in Bondigui on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The visit, led by technical coordinator Inoussa Ouédraogo, assessed the progress of agricultural activities and the use of provided support, including equipment and inputs. The initiative aims to foster food self-sufficiency across the nation.
In Bondigui, 35 young VDP members have received training in agricultural and livestock production, alongside military training. They manage a 12-hectare agricultural plot, fully developed under the "Grands projets" initiative. The site is equipped with two high-flow boreholes, enabling dry-season farming. Currently, six hectares are dedicated to rice cultivation and two to maize, with crops showing satisfactory development according to project officials.
The mission acknowledged the achievements and encouraged the VDP farmers to increase their efforts and teamwork. Ouédraogo announced continued support, with each cooperative expected to receive subsidized tractors and tricycles. Sié Sylvain Palm, an agricultural VDP member, affirmed their commitment to making the President's food self-sufficiency initiative a reality and contributing to national food security.
