A mother is suspected of killing her infant and then attempting suicide in Rumonge province, southwest Burundi.
A family tragedy unfolded in Kizuka, Rumonge province, where a mother is suspected of killing her child and then attempting to end her own life. Local administrative and police sources confirmed the discovery of the lifeless infant near the severely injured mother. The woman, who had been separated from her husband for over two years, had returned to her parents' home while pregnant.
The woman was found with serious throat injuries, believed to be self-inflicted, shortly after the incident. She was transported to Rumonge hospital for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the exact circumstances and motives behind the tragedy, and the identities of the child and the mother, as well as any potential legal proceedings, have not yet been released by authorities.
Neighbors reported that the woman inflicted severe injuries on herself shortly after the suspected killing. She was found in close proximity to the child's body.
