The Botswana Medical Aid Society provided a year's supply of biopsy needles and drains to aid breast condition diagnosis and patient recovery.
The Botswana Medical Aid Society (Bomaid) has donated 480 True-Cut biopsy needles and 576 Portovac drains, valued at over P276,000, to the Breast and Endocrine Unit at Princess Marina Hospital. These supplies will support the diagnosis of breast conditions and postoperative care for patients undergoing breast and endocrine surgical procedures, alleviating a burden where patients previously had to purchase essential consumables themselves.
The donation aims to ensure clinicians can obtain necessary tissue samples for accurate diagnoses and to aid patient recovery post-surgery. Dr. Nkhabe Chinyepi of the Breast and Endocrine Unit highlighted that the availability of these supplies will prevent patients from facing difficult choices between family needs and medical treatment, and will also support the unit's teaching and research by standardizing procedures and generating local clinical evidence.
The handover ceremony was attended by Assistant Minister of Health Lawrence Ookeditse, Ministry of Health representatives, hospital management, Bomaid officials, and healthcare partners. Minister Ookeditse emphasized the donation as a demonstration of partnership and shared responsibility in improving healthcare services for Batswana, equipping frontline professionals with essential tools for efficient patient care.
