Russian mercenary group's vehicles obstruct traffic and access to businesses in Zawa, complicating travel on National Road 1.
In Zawa, a town approximately 240 kilometers from Bangui on National Road 1, vehicles belonging to the Russian Wagner mercenary group are regularly blocking traffic lanes and circulation spaces. This haphazard parking significantly hinders the movement of travelers and impedes access to shops and offices situated along the route.
The town of Zawa is located between Yaloké and Bossemptélé on the main route connecting Bangui to western towns. Journalists observed that the obstruction is not a random occurrence. The armed individuals are parking their large vehicles and armored cars in the middle of the road, even positioning them in front of local transport agency facilities.
This situation disrupts the daily flow of transporters, motorcyclists, and all individuals who use this vital artery to travel between the capital and the western regions of the country. The presence of these vehicles creates a consistent impediment to local commerce and transit.
