Cameroon's Socadel Seeks CFA52.6 Billion in Fuel for 33 Power Plants

The state-owned electricity company launched two tenders to secure heavy fuel oil and diesel for its thermal power stations.

Cameroon's state electricity company, Socadel, is seeking to purchase CFA52.622 billion worth of heavy fuel oil and diesel to supply 33 thermal power plants across the nation. The procurement aims to cover the operational needs of these plants, with funding allocated from the company's 2026 and 2027 budgets, depending on contract duration. The tenders, dated October 13, 2026, were published by the Public Procurement Regulatory Agency on October 19.

The larger of the two tenders, valued at CFA36.715 billion, is for the supply of HFO 3500 heavy fuel oil to the thermal power plants located in Limbé, Dibamba, Oyomabang, and Logbaba. This contract is further divided into two lots: one for the Limbé plant at CFA17.384 billion and another for the remaining three facilities at CFA19.331 billion. The combined minimum supply for these contracts is 35,327 metric tons, with a maximum indicative amount of 70,653 tons.

Deliveries will be managed through purchase orders issued by Socadel, contingent on the specific operating requirements of each power plant. The second tender, for diesel fuel, is also part of the overall effort to ensure consistent energy generation across the country. These purchases are crucial for maintaining the operational capacity of the country's thermal power infrastructure.

Why it mattersSocadel's fuel purchases are intended to meet the operating needs of 33 thermal power plants across Cameroon.
