The year-long event celebrated values and identity through various artistic and academic disciplines.
The 2025/2026 academic year's cultural competition for schools in Eritrea's Central Region concluded on September 3rd. The event, held under the theme “Culture: Fostering Values and Identity,” spanned elementary to secondary levels and included activities such as reading, calligraphy, general knowledge, photography, painting, innovation, debating, narration, short stories, poetry, dance, music, and drama.
At the closing ceremony at Cinema Roma, Mr. Mesfun Woldeselasie, head of administration and finance at the Ministry of Education's Central Region branch, emphasized culture's role in reflecting societal aspirations and values. He called for nurturing committed youth who uphold noble societal values. Mr. Solomon Barhe, head of culture, stated the program aimed to instill patriotism and cultural pride in the younger generation, encouraging them to inherit and pass on ancestral values.
Mr. Barhe also advocated for teacher training programs focused on coordinating cultural activities and for increased parental involvement. Awards were presented to the winning schools during the concluding event, recognizing their achievements in the diverse cultural showcases throughout the academic year.
