A new cement factory and clinker production line are set to reduce import dependency and boost national construction material output.
Gabon has initiated its industrialization strategy with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mondah Green Beach cement production line and factory on October 20, 2026. This project, backed by an investment of at least 114 billion FCFA and developed with Chinese partners, aims to decrease reliance on imported materials, strengthen domestic production of construction supplies, and generate over 200 direct jobs. The initiative is part of Gabon's "Structuring Industries" plan, building on economic cooperation agreements established in 2024.
The Mondah Green Beach facility will feature a clinker production line with a capacity of one million tons annually, alongside a cement plant capable of producing the same amount. This venture is a collaboration between Hope Global Investment and Hong Kong-based Conch Investment Holding. The project is intended to secure the national supply of cement, support the building and public works sector, and potentially open avenues for regional exports, contributing to economic diversification.
Beyond industrial output, the project emphasizes job creation and skills transfer, with a focus on employing Gabonese labor and engaging local businesses. Training programs and technology transfer initiatives are planned to ensure local communities acquire the necessary expertise for operating the plant. This development is a tangible outcome of economic diplomacy discussions held between Gabon and China.
Why it mattersThe new cement plant will affect investors by providing opportunities in a key industrial sector and potentially influencing regional trade dynamics.
