Gabon receives 96 tonnes of Chinese apples

A shipment of Huaniu apples arrived in Libreville following a trade deal at a Madrid exhibition.

Gabon has received its first shipment of 96 tonnes of Chinese Huaniu apples in Libreville. The fruit departed from China's Gansu province on October 30, 2026, and is expected to take 70 days to reach its destination by sea. This marks the initial export of fresh agricultural products from Gansu to Gabon via cross-border e-commerce.

The trade agreement for these apples was finalized in October at the Fruit Attraction 2026 trade fair in Madrid, Spain. Li Zhi, general manager of a Tianshui international trade company, stated that African markets show stable demand for quality fresh fruit. This export aims to increase the direct sales of fresh fruit from Gansu, where apple production reached 2.03 million tonnes this year.

The arrival coincides with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema's state visit to China, which began on November 3, 2026. This venture opens new commercial prospects between China and Central Africa for fresh produce.
