The Ministry of Mines has canceled permits for multiple mining companies for failing to meet legal requirements.
Gabon's Ministry of Mines and Geological Resources has revoked mining exploration and exploitation permits from several companies following a comprehensive audit. The audit, conducted from June 29 to October 16, 2026, found that these operators failed to comply with legal and regulatory standards. This action is part of a broader effort to strengthen oversight of the national mining sector.
The revoked permits affect operations across multiple provinces, including Ogooué-Ivindo, Woleu-Ntem, Ngounié, Haut-Ogooué, Ogooué-Lolo, Estuaire, Moyen-Ogooué, and Nyanga. Companies named include Abice Mining Gabon, Afrique Resources SA, Azingon Gabon, Les Mines du Gabon, Somine Gabon, Gabon Gold Mining, Ivindo Mining, Jin He Mining, SMO, Société des mines et carrières du Gabon (SMCG), Société Perle Gabonaise, Agil Gabon, Élie Resources Gabon, and Global Mine Development (GMD).
The ministry stated that the decision aims to enforce regulatory compliance and reinforce control over issued mining titles. Companies are advised to contact the ministry for further information, and non-compliance with the decision may lead to legal proceedings. This move follows a suspension of small-scale gold mining activities nationwide, decided on June 22, 2026.
Why it mattersInvestors are affected because multiple mining companies have lost their permits due to non-compliance with regulations.
