BaseNord Opens to Boost Ghana-Sweden Trade

A new facility in Accra aims to connect Ghanaian and Swedish entrepreneurs with investors and partners.

BaseNord, a new facility designed to foster business connections between Ghana and Sweden, has opened in Accra's East Legon neighborhood. The center offers co-working spaces, private offices, and virtual office solutions to support startups and established businesses. Sweden's Honorary Consul to Ghana, Nickie Akosa, established BaseNord in response to the challenges startups face in finding professional working environments and the growing interest from Swedish investors in Ghana.

The initiative aims to deepen commercial ties, which saw significant growth in 2025 with bilateral trade reaching its highest levels in three years. Ghana's exports to Sweden were valued at US$3.07 million, while Swedish exports to Ghana reached US$86.3 million. BaseNord will provide practical support, information, and assistance for Ghanaian businesses seeking partners in Scandinavia and for Swedish investors looking to establish operations in Ghana.

Ms. Akosa, drawing on her experience in the renewable energy sector and establishing foreign company operations in Ghana, envisions BaseNord as a hub for strengthening trade relations. The center intends to facilitate partnerships and strengthen bilateral trade, particularly in the renewable energy, food, and agriculture sectors, by addressing bureaucratic processes and local market navigation.

Why it mattersInvestors and entrepreneurs can access workspace and networking opportunities to facilitate business between Ghana and Sweden.
