EFF challenges immigration over border refusal

The party disputes the immigration department's explanation for barring campaign technicians and vehicles.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gambia is challenging the Gambia Immigration Department's (GID) explanation for denying entry to campaign technicians and vehicles for presidential candidate Prince Ebrahim Sanyang. EFF argues that the GID's account is contradictory and lacks a legal basis for the refusal.

Immigration Director General Ebrima Mboob claimed the passengers stated they were joining another candidate, but EFF points to vehicles branded with EFF colours and Sanyang's portrait. The party insists six Senegalese technicians arrived in two vehicles, contradicting the GID's description of "a bus and a pickup truck" or "two buses." EFF plans to provide documentation to prove campaign ownership of ECOWAS-registered vehicles.

EFF criticized the GID's reliance on "movement control" without citing a specific published rule. Prince Sanyang submitted a clearance request on October 23, but no decision was communicated by October 27, leading EFF to argue the delay cannot justify refusal. The party demands proof that this requirement applies equally to all candidates ahead of the December 5 presidential election.

Why it mattersOpposition parties face restrictions on campaign movements and meetings ahead of the presidential election.
