Matty Jobe becomes face of Gambia International Fashion Week 2026

The upcoming 4th edition of GIFW, themed 'Roots to Runway — Luxury Born in Gambia,' will highlight local craftsmanship and sustainability.

Gambia International Fashion Week (GIFW) has named Matty Jobe as the official face for its 2026 edition, scheduled to run from November 10 to 17. The event's theme, “Roots to Runway — Luxury Born in Gambia,” aims to showcase the nation's inherent craftsmanship and cultural narratives. Preparations are underway, with an official casting call set for October 18 at Arch 22 in Banjul.

Founded in 2023 by Ismaila Jallow as a non-profit initiative, GIFW focuses on creating visibility, training, and career opportunities for young Gambian designers, stylists, models, and other creatives. Event Coordinator Fatima Muloshi stated that the platform seeks to provide a concrete pathway for talent, preventing the need for young people to seek opportunities abroad. This year's edition will emphasize sustainability through recycling, promoting "Made in Gambia" products, and positioning the country as a global fashion destination.

The "Made in Gambia" pillar specifically aims to foster stronger connections between local farmers, artisans, designers, and consumers, thereby supporting livelihoods and strengthening the economy. Winners of the competition will also receive an opportunity for international exposure and training through a study trip to leading fashion universities. Sanna B. Jarju of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC) described the event's progression as a significant step for the creative sector.

Why it mattersYoung Gambians passionate about fashion and creativity are provided with training, visibility, and career opportunities, offering an alternative to irregular migration.
