60 members of vigilance committees in Conakry received training on environmental disaster prevention and management on October 29, 2026. The Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, through the National Center for Catastrophes and Environmental Emergencies, organized the event to mark the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The training aimed to enhance community actors' skills in risk identification, early warning, and disaster prevention.
Dr. Karim Samoura, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, presided over the ceremony and emphasized the critical role of local populations in disaster prevention. He highlighted vigilance committee members as the first alert relays within communities, stressing that national policies require local anchoring to succeed. The initiative seeks to build trust in civic engagement and equip participants with knowledge for environmental safety.
