Fire destroys homes in Malabo

Over 10 families lost their homes and belongings after a fire swept through the barrio Héroe Luba on Sunday.

A fire destroyed more than eight homes in Malabo's Héroe Luba neighborhood on Sunday, November 1, leaving over 10 families homeless. The blaze, which started around 10 PM, rapidly spread through the semi-permanent structures. Residents reported that a short circuit likely caused the fire.

Affected residents are seeking urgent assistance, with some stating they have no income and do not know how to begin rebuilding. Neighbors actively participated in fighting the fire, but they reported delays from protection services allowed the flames to consume more houses. One resident, Lázaro González, mentioned that the community managed to rescue an elderly man with reduced mobility.

The affected families are appealing for solidarity from the public and relevant authorities. A reporter from Real Equatorial Guinea visited the site on Monday and observed the distressed victims. The incident highlights the vulnerability of housing in the area and the need for community support.
