The current political situation in Guinea-Bissau follows a military coup on November 26, 2025, which led to the removal of the then-elected President Umaro Sissoco Embaló. A new constitution was introduced, granting more power to the head of state. The opposition has alleged that the coup was orchestrated to facilitate Embaló's return to power through new elections scheduled by the military for December 6.
