Autopsy reveals 86-year-old Kenyan woman died from stab wounds

Dorita Macharia suffered over 20 injuries, including deep cuts to her face and neck.

An autopsy revealed that Dorita Macharia, 86, died from excessive blood loss due to multiple stab wounds to the neck. The examination at Lee Funeral Home on November 4 also found over 20 other injuries, including deep cuts to her face, neck, and arms, and a fracture on her left upper arm. Government pathologist Dr Bernard Midia stated the fatal wounds damaged blood vessels, causing severe bleeding, and indicated a sharp object was used.

The postmortem was attended by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives, pathologists, and lawyers for the deceased and suspects. Lawyer Philip Murgor, representing the family, said the findings establish the cause of death, allowing investigators to focus on the circumstances and perpetrators. The findings are expected to guide the DCI Gigiri team investigating Macharia's death at her Loresho Ridge Estate home on October 30.

Macharia's granddaughter, Thandie Malaika, her mother Regina Re, her brother Jimmy Macharia, and Immanuel Munyeki were remanded for 10 days by Kibera Law Courts. This allows detectives to complete their investigation into the circumstances of the 86-year-old's death. Investigators are also examining allegations that some relatives may have interfered with the scene by cleaning parts of the house after the body was discovered.

Why it mattersDorita Macharia's death from multiple stab wounds and excessive blood loss is under investigation, with four family members remanded.
