Ex-official alleges procurement pressure in Sakaja fallout
Former Nairobi Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria claims Governor Sakaja sidelined him and pressured him into questionable procurement deals.
Former Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has accused Governor Johnson Sakaja of sidelining him for nearly three years and pressuring him into questionable procurement deals. Mosiria stated that his powers as an accounting officer were effectively transferred to junior officers on December 28, 2023, through an unprocedural memo. He also alleged that his health budget was drastically reduced from Sh1.2 billion to Sh100 million, hindering his ability to perform duties.
Mosiria claimed the fallout began after he refused to participate in direct procurement arrangements that he believed would benefit individuals close to the governor and his contractors. He recounted a confrontation during a WhatsApp conference call with Chief of Staff Osman Khalifa regarding these procurement issues. Subsequently, Mosiria was transferred to the Environment department, where he felt he had little authority, and later to Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.
Despite facing alleged attacks in official groups, public criticism, and a court case for contempt, Mosiria stated he chose to lead enforcement operations on the streets to serve Nairobi residents. He also claimed to have received information about preparations for a court case intended to jail him, expressing his hope that Nairobians would discern who truly serves them and who belongs in jail.
