Comoran youth detained in Marseille after riots

A young Comoran national faces potential expulsion from France after being jailed for alleged looting.

A young Comoran man, identified only as Nourdine, has been detained in Marseille's Baumettes prison following riots on October 17. He was arrested in connection with looting that occurred after a demonstration.

Judicial authorities have labelled Nourdine, who is in his twenties, as a "vandal" or "looter." He was jailed on the decision of a delegated judge. Nourdine, who lives with his parents in France and is not in school, reportedly only holds Comoran nationality.

An expulsion to the Comoros is being considered, though the specifics and progress of this potential measure are not yet clear. His family resides in France, and his parents have not initiated steps for him to obtain French nationality.
