Italy sees Misrata as logistics hub

Ambassador Alberini stated that two-thirds of goods between Libya, Italy, and Europe pass through the port.

Italy's Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini, said Misrata and its Free Zone have the potential to become a transcontinental logistics hub. He spoke at the Italian-Libyan Business and Investment Forum held in Misrata Free Zone on Sunday, November 1.

Alberini highlighted the participation of approximately 60 Italian companies and 250 Libyan firms as proof of mutual interest in new collaborations. He noted that Annalisa Tardino, President of the Port System Authority of the Western Sicilian Sea, attended, signaling new prospects for cooperation between Italian and Libyan ports.

Italy remains Libya's primary commercial partner, serving as the main destination for its exports and its leading supplier. Two-thirds of goods moving between Libya, Italy, and Europe transit through Misrata, which Alberini described as a vibrant commercial and industrial hub.

Why it mattersLibyan businesses and the national economy are affected by the potential for Misrata to become a logistics hub and the strengthening of economic relations with Italy.
