Libya detains 20 truck owners over essential goods

Law enforcement seized trucks and referred drivers to financial crimes agency for lacking official invoices.

Libya's Law Enforcement Department arrested 20 truck owners yesterday for allegedly transporting imported essential goods without proper invoices. The operation, directed by the Government of National Unity's Prime Minister, aimed to increase oversight on food supplies and combat smuggling.

The detained individuals are suspected of moving essential food items, imported via letters of credit, without documentation proving their legitimacy or origin. These arrests occurred during security patrols in Tripoli's suburbs, the Jebel region, and Shwerif.

Legal actions have been initiated against the drivers, who have been sent with their documentation to the Agency for Combating Financial Crimes. The trucks involved have been impounded as part of efforts to verify the movement of goods and prevent market disruption.
