Former MP Naivo Raholdina jailed for 10 years

Naivo Raholdina and former fokontany chief Jean Nirina Rafanomezantsoa convicted for land deals.

Former deputy Naivo Raholdina was sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined 200 million ariary on Tuesday, October 27, at the Anosy court. Jean Nirina Rafanomezantsoa, former head of the Anosizato-Est fokontany, received a five-year prison sentence. Both were found guilty of abuse of power and illegal land transactions.

The convictions stem from the irregular occupation of a plot in Anosibe Angarangarana and the controversial sale of a football field in Anosizato. Raholdina and Rafanomezantsoa, detained since May, were sentenced in a common law case, unrelated to state security charges against other former regime officials. Raholdina, a close associate of former president Andry Rajoelina, was absent for the verdict.

In a separate case, Raïssa Razaivola received a five-year prison sentence and a 10.8 million ariary fine. Razaivola, previously sentenced to seven years in 2023, had been released after the October 2025 power change. She was re-arrested in February and transferred to Avaradrano.
