The Mauritanian President met the newly elected OIC leader at his holiday residence in Assaba, acknowledging his unanimous election.
President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani met with the newly elected Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Ismaël Ould Cheikh Ahmed, at his vacation site near Kiffa. The presidency stated that Ould Cheikh Ahmed expressed gratitude to President Ghazouani for his nomination and the efforts that led to his unanimous election.
During the meeting, Ould Cheikh Ahmed presented President Ghazouani with two awards: one in the name of the "Sira" (biography of the Prophet) and another on behalf of the OIC. President Ghazouani congratulated the Secretary-General, wishing him success in his new role.
Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed, a Mauritanian diplomat, succeeds Houssein Ibrahim Taha of Chad. His career includes roles as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chief of Staff for President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, alongside diplomatic and UN positions.
