Mauritanian Red Crescent and British Red Cross collaborate on a new mechanism to aid 100 disaster-affected families.
A workshop in Kiffa concluded Saturday, reviewing and approving simplified operational procedures for emergency cash responses. The initiative aims to establish a rapid and effective mechanism to support 100 families impacted by disasters, funded by the Disaster Fund implemented by the Mauritanian Red Crescent in partnership with the British Red Cross.
Officials emphasized the importance of a ready financial mechanism and flexible indicators for swift disaster response. Success hinges on clear roles, rapid information exchange, transparent beneficiary selection, and close coordination with local authorities and stakeholders who possess direct knowledge of field realities and population needs.
The project is an experimental initiative to enhance the Mauritanian Red Crescent's capacity for rapid response to urgent needs of populations affected by limited-scale disasters. It focuses on monitoring, anticipation, and pre-positioning financial resources to quickly activate emergency cash aid once predefined criteria are met.
