Joanna Bérenger will ask the Prime Minister and ministers about a missing Bangladeshi national, public consultations for the M4 highway, waste transfer station relocation.
Member of Parliament Joanna Bérenger has submitted several questions to the Mauritian government ahead of the National Assembly's reconvening on October 20. Bérenger, representing the 15th constituency, announced these queries via Facebook on October 19, focusing on four key issues. She plans to question Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam regarding the investigation into the disappearance of a Bangladeshi caregiver who has been missing since April 3, 2026. Her questions aim to ascertain if the individual has left the country, been located, and if measures are in place for her safety.
Further inquiries will be directed to the Minister of National Infrastructure concerning the M4 highway project. Bérenger seeks the findings and recommendations from public consultations held on this infrastructure plan. Additionally, she will address the Minister of Environment, Rajesh Bhagwan, about a decision on relocating the La Brasserie waste transfer station to La Marie. The MP also intends to question the Minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Patrick Assirvaden, on water resource management.
Specifically, Bérenger is requesting a detailed report on the number of water drilling permits issued to date. This report should include the names of permit holders, issuance dates, the locations of the boreholes, and the intended use of the extracted water. These questions highlight Bérenger's focus on public safety, infrastructure development, environmental management, and resource allocation within Mauritius.
Why it mattersFarmers are affected by the potential relocation of a waste transfer station and the issuance of water drilling permits, which could impact water resources.
