Sixteen thousand children in Gaza province face risks from floods, poverty, and cultural factors, prompting a government and partner investment.
At least sixteen thousand children in the districts of Mabalane, Chókwè, and Guijá, in Gaza province, are in vulnerable situations. Floods, poverty, and cultural practices are exacerbating these conditions, leading to early unions and school dropouts. The government, in partnership with other organizations, plans to allocate sixty-seven million meticais to implement protection measures in these three districts.
The investment aims to address the multifaceted challenges contributing to the vulnerability of these young individuals. Factors such as economic hardship and deeply rooted cultural norms are identified as significant contributors to the precarious state of child welfare in the region. The planned interventions are designed to offer a protective framework for the affected children.
This initiative seeks to mitigate the negative impacts of poverty and environmental challenges on children's lives. By focusing on protection actions, the program intends to create a safer and more supportive environment, aiming to reduce instances of premature unions and improve school attendance rates among the most at-risk youth in Mabalane, Chókwè, and Guijá.
