Dangote launches N$41.6 billion pipeline project in Walvis Bay
Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote promises cheaper fuel for Namibia with a new N$41.6 billion pipeline project.
Nigerian businessman Aliko Dangote launched a N$41.6 billion regional pipeline project near Walvis Bay yesterday. The project by Dangote Industries Limited aims to create a petroleum storage and distribution facility with pipeline infrastructure to improve fuel access across Namibia and landlocked regional countries.
Dangote told Namibians that the project, which includes a 600 million litre storage facility for diesel and petrol, will reduce fuel supply costs. He assured President Netumbo-Nandi Ndaitwah that petroleum prices would become much cheaper. The development also features truck-loading facilities and an approximately 1,700-kilometre regional pipeline network.
The pipeline is planned to extend from Walvis Bay to Otjiwarongo, Rundu, and Francistown, Botswana, serving Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, and parts of the Democratic Republic of Congo. President Ndaitwah revealed she personally intervened to prevent bureaucracy from causing Namibia to lose this strategic investment.
