Namibia finance minister to review N$8.5bn development spending

The finance minister will present the 2026/2027 Mid-Year Budget Review, detailing spending, revenue collection, and government liquidity.

Namibia's N$8.5 billion development budget, revenue collection, and government liquidity will be reviewed by the finance minister on Thursday. Deloitte Namibia anticipates updates on budget implementation, revenue performance, and measures to boost government collections. The review will also clarify funding for efforts to contain the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak impacting the livestock sector.

Gerda Brand, director of Namibia tax at Deloitte, stated the review will assess budget implementation against final fiscal indicators for the year ending March 2026. She noted the finance minister previously identified implementation as a significant challenge. Deloitte expects focus on the execution of the N$8.5 billion development budget and the progress of major capital projects.

Tabitha Mugandiwa, manager of Namibia tax at Deloitte, said the minister had estimated total revenue for the 2026/2027 financial year at N$89.8 billion. The review will update on revenue collection against this projection, crucial for assessing if spending plans align with actual collections. Government liquidity, affected by VAT credit refunds, will also be addressed, with potential measures to strengthen revenue mobilization outlined.
