Enugu State Police Command announced the arrest of 6,240 suspects and the rescue of 211 kidnapped victims over a 17-month period. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa stated that operations also led to the recovery of 156 firearms and 1,486 rounds of ammunition. The figures cover Giwa's tenure since March 11, 2025, and include arrests for offenses such as kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, rape, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.
During the security operations, police recovered 43 AK-47 rifles and one G-3 assault rifle, among other firearms. Additionally, 209 vehicles, including cars, tricycles, and motorcycles, were recovered. The Commissioner attributed these successes to sustained intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, and collaboration with neighboring states. He highlighted the deployment of specialized units like the Violent Crime Response Unit and intensified border patrols.
The command's efforts were supported by the Inspector-General of Police’s Handshake Patrol initiative and improved emergency response systems. Assistant Inspector-General of Police Miller Dantawaye, visiting the command, urged officers to maintain professionalism, discipline, and accountability while respecting citizens' rights. He emphasized the importance of building public confidence and assured the command of his support in enhancing security within Enugu State.
