Rwanda, DRC military planners meet in Germany on FDLR

Military planners from Rwanda and the DRC met in Germany to finalise a plan to neutralise the FDLR.

Military planners from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo convened in Garmisch, Germany, to brainstorm on neutralising the FDLR. The United States organised the meeting as part of the Joint Security Coordination Mechanism (JSCM) to implement security commitments from the Washington Accords for Peace and Prosperity. The African Union and Qatar also participated.

Discussions focused on a draft operations order intended to guide the DRC in neutralising the FDLR, alongside the disengagement of Rwandan forces and the lifting of their defensive measures. A U.S. statement indicated this plan requires approval before guiding implementation.

The draft operations order still needs approval before guiding the implementation of these security commitments.
