Rwanda secures $4.97 million for climate adaptation
The funds will strengthen climate resilience for 10,000 smallholder farmers in Gatsibo, Nyagatare, and Kayonza districts.
Rwanda has secured U$4.97 million from the Adaptation Fund to boost climate resilience for smallholder farmers in Gatsibo, Nyagatare, and Kayonza districts. This project, a collaboration between the UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to improve access to climate information and climate-smart farming technologies for at least 10,000 farmers.
The initiative will promote climate-smart agriculture, enhance advisory services, and reduce crop losses caused by drought and unpredictable rainfall. The Adaptation Fund, which finances projects for vulnerable communities in developing countries, has approved nearly U$35 million for climate resilience across Rwanda and the Horn of Africa.
This funding is part of the Adaptation Fund's commitment to climate adaptation and resilience projects since 2010, which has seen it commit about U$1.6 billion. The fund empowers countries to access funding directly through accredited national implementing entities, supporting local projects for approximately 120 million beneficiaries globally.
Why it mattersSmallholder farmers in Gatsibo, Nyagatare, and Kayonza districts will benefit from improved access to climate information and technologies to combat drought and erratic rainfall.
