Senegal mobilises 600 health workers for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics
Over 30 ambulances and reinforced hospital facilities will support the health coverage for the upcoming youth games.
Senegal's Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene has mobilised more than 600 health professionals and 30 ambulances to ensure health coverage for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). This health provision includes medical posts at competition sites, emergency services, ambulances, and reference hospitals. The Hôpital d’Enfants de Diamniadio has been designated as the official YOG hospital and received upgraded technical equipment to improve diagnostic and patient care capabilities.
The health plan involves coordinated efforts between medical teams across various sites, intervention squads, and care facilities, with professionals distributed to competition venues and support teams. The public health facility in Mbour also underwent upgrades to meet standards. Epidemiological surveillance has been intensified at border posts and entry points, with regular bulletins shared and delegation medical teams trained on the national alert system. Simulation exercises were conducted at the Hôpital d’Enfants de Diamniadio.
The National Supply Pharmacy (SEN-PNA) is managing the distribution of medicines and medical supplies, with regular stock monitoring to prevent shortages. A dedicated digital patient file system for the YOG will enhance care traceability and medical information flow. The ministry aims to provide appropriate care for athletes, delegations, spectators, and the public while strengthening prevention and emergency management during the games.
