Fugitive Duqow saves 40 Somali soldiers

Duqow, a man sentenced to death, rescued soldiers lost after fighting Al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle.

A fugitive named Duqow rescued over 40 Somali Federal Government soldiers who were stranded for two nights in the Jameeco area of the Lower Shabelle region. The troops became lost after a battle with Al-Shabaab militants. Duqow and Macawiisley fighters found the soldiers, gave them food, and guided them to safety in Yaaqbiriweyne district.

Duqow, who has been on the run for nearly a year, was sentenced to death by military court judge Judge Shuute. He denied disarming the soldiers, stating he provided refreshments and contacted their commander. Duqow said he harbored no malice, declaring, “The federal government is my government and I have no intention of seeking revenge.”

The Somali Federal Government has not yet officially commented on the incident. Duqow’s current legal standing and the military’s official response remain unclear following the rescue.
