Emergency services will target women and children in Unity State facing acute malnutrition and food insecurity.
Germany has provided funding for emergency nutrition services in Guit County, Unity State, to assist vulnerable communities grappling with a severe and prolonged nutrition crisis. The support will enable the Coalition for Humanity to deliver aid to underserved populations in Kuach, Kuerguiny, Wathnyotna, and Chotyiel, where access to essential services is limited. German Ambassador Sebastian Brökelmann stated the funding aims to help those affected by acute malnutrition, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups.
The intervention will prioritize young children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers, who are at heightened risk. Displaced individuals, returnees, and households impacted by conflict and flooding that have disrupted access to food, healthcare, and nutrition services will also benefit. The program will concentrate on hard-to-reach areas that become isolated due to flooding or insecurity, often lacking permanent nutrition facilities.
Guit County is experiencing an emergency-level nutrition crisis, classified under Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Phase 4 for both acute food insecurity and acute malnutrition. This situation is exacerbated by ongoing food insecurity, recurrent flooding, displacement, localized insecurity, disease risks, and disruptions to humanitarian aid. Germany, South Sudan's second-largest bilateral donor, continues its commitment to supporting the nation's population.
Why it mattersVulnerable women and children in Unity State will receive emergency nutrition services to combat acute malnutrition.
