South Sudan parties register election coalitions

The Political Parties Council has approved four pre-election coalitions, comprising 25 parties, ahead of the December 2026 general elections.

South Sudan’s Political Parties Council (PPC) has set Thursday, October 22, as the deadline for political parties to register pre-election coalitions for the December 2026 elections. The council announced Wednesday that four coalitions, made up of 25 parties, had met the legal and regulatory criteria for registration. PPC Chairperson James Akol Zakayo stated in Juba that these coalitions were officially entered into the council’s register after an extraordinary session.

The four approved coalitions are the National Agenda Coalition of Political Parties (NAC), the Coalition of National Alliance of Political Parties (CNA), the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA), and the National Alliance of Political Parties (NAPP). Zakayo detailed that NAC includes 10 parties, CNA has six, SSOA has five, and NAPP has four. The council urged the 25 constituent parties to finalize outstanding internal documentation, secure signatures, and make required legal deposits before the deadline.

Registration certificates are expected to be issued by Monday, October 26. Zakayo emphasized that the deadline adheres to a legal requirement for coalitions to register at least 60 days before the election, which is scheduled for December 22, 2026. Parties submitting registrations after Thursday will not be considered.
