Portuguese firm recruits 100 Sao Tome construction workers
A European Union-funded labour migration project aims to fill a shortage of skilled workers in Portugal.
Around 100 young Sao Tomean construction professionals are being recruited by a Portuguese company for work in Portugal. The recruitment drive, which is part of a European Union-funded labour migration project, began today in Sao Tome. The Portuguese company Cândido de José Rodrigues (CJR) is leading the effort.
Pedro Maia, director of CJR, stated that the company is seeking a wide range of skilled workers, including foremen, typographers, engineers, masons, and machine operators, due to a significant labour shortage in Portugal. CJR will provide logistical support for obtaining legal work visas and will cover accommodation, utilities, and food for workers if they are away from their residences.
Selected Sao Tomeans are expected to earn a monthly salary of 1,000 euros for their work on CJR's construction projects in Portugal. The recruitment process is scheduled to last for three days, with many young people gathering at a hotel in the capital seeking employment opportunities.
