Chad launches special road safety brigade
The National Road Safety Office is deploying a new unit to enforce vehicle regulations and driver compliance.
Chad's National Road Safety Office (ONASER) has activated its Special Brigade to enforce road safety regulations for transporters. Director General Zam-zam Ahmat Karambal met with transport unions on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Abou Hamama travel agency and the Tacha Barra goods transport hub. The brigade, operational since September 2, 2026, aims to ensure the safety of road users and drivers.
Karambal highlighted that some drivers lack proper licenses or use counterfeit documents, and stressed the importance of vehicle condition, including headlights, seatbelts, and tires. The brigade's initial focus will be on non-compliant lighting systems. Transport unions requested a two-week period to inform their members and remove illegal 'laser' headlights.
The transport unions proposed that the brigade issue detailed inspection reports for non-compliant vehicles, to be given to drivers to share with their companies. ONASER, established by law n° 003/PR/2017, is central to the country's road safety strategy and will maintain an active presence on the ground.
Why it mattersTransporters and their unions in Chad are directly affected by new road safety enforcement measures.
