Togo scraps teaching aptitude exams

A new ministerial order ends the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude exams for teachers in Togo.

Togo has abolished the Certificate of Pedagogical Aptitude (CAP) exams for teachers. Minister of National Education Mama Omorou signed an order on October 23, 2026, cancelling the exams that were established in 1978.

The reform includes transitional measures for some educators. Holders of the elementary CAP for the first degree can still take the first-degree CAP exam. Secondary school teachers in specific subjects like art, physical education, home economics, and music can also apply if they hold a diploma equivalent to the second-degree CAP or the BAC 2.

The new order takes effect immediately upon its publication in the Official Gazette. The secretary-general of the ministry is responsible for its implementation.
