President Samia to attend 70th anniversary of Tanzania CSOs
The three-day event in Dar es Salaam from October 28 to 30 will celebrate civil society's contribution to national development.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan will attend the 70th anniversary of civil society organisation (CSO) registration and regulation in Tanzania. The event, scheduled for October 28 to 30, 2026, at Mlimani City in Dar es Salaam, will gather CSO leaders to discuss their sector's role in national development and social welfare. The Ministry of Home Affairs is managing online registration for participating organisations via its website or the RSMIS portal.
Registrar of Societies Emmanuel Kihampa stated that President Samia's presence will add prominence to the commemoration, focusing on civil society's support for social services and community participation. The anniversary theme is “Civil Society Organisations: The Foundation of Unity, Solidarity and National Development.” This event occurs as the government expands digital systems for CSO registration and oversight.
The Ministry of Home Affairs completed its electronic Registration and Management Information System, which is now operational, according to Home Affairs Minister Patrobas Katambi. Tanzania had 12,966 registered CSOs, with 126 registered between July 2025 and April 2026, comprising 12 religious and 114 non-religious organisations. The electronic platform allows organisations to access registration services remotely.
Why it mattersCivil society organisations and their leaders in Tanzania are directly affected by the commemoration and discussions on their role in national development.
