Tanzania and Angola sign four cooperation deals

Leaders aim to transform 50 years of solidarity into practical economic ties with new agreements.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Angolan President João Manuel Lourenço signed four cooperation agreements in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, October 29. The deals aim to convert 50 years of solidarity into tangible economic links, addressing the slow progress in trade since formal relations began.

Agreements covered the transfer of sentenced persons and air services, with new memoranda on information and communications technology and meteorology. President Lourenço stated that African nations need stronger intra-continental ties to achieve development goals, noting that economic and trade relations between Tanzania and Angola remain very small.

Tanzania will reopen its embassy in Angola and appoint an ambassador to boost bilateral relations. The leaders agreed to organize a trade and investment forum to identify business opportunities, following President Samia's 2025 visit to Angola which also sought to reset economic cooperation.
