Mandevu by-election candidate withdraws citing threats

Forum for Democracy and Development candidate Daniel Chisenga pulled out of the race for the Mandevu seat.

Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) candidate Daniel Chisenga withdrew from the November 5 Mandevu by-election, citing threats to his life from unknown individuals and political players. His withdrawal leaves UPND candidate Adrian Banda as the sole contender for the seat, which has over 123,000 registered voters.

Mr Chisenga stated he has informed the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) of his decision. The remaining candidates for the Mandevu seat are Adrian Banda of the UPND, Ntazana Musukuma of the Leadership Movement, and independent Daniel Daka. The ECZ is training 730 poll staff in Lusaka to ensure professionalism and impartiality.

ECZ vice-chairperson Vincent Mukanda urged poll staff to uphold integrity and fairness during the by-election. Acting chief electoral officer Collins Kachaka also stressed the importance of accurate record-keeping and control at polling stations. The by-election is scheduled for next Thursday.

Why it mattersZambians in the Mandevu constituency will have only one candidate, Adrian Banda, to vote for in the upcoming by-election.
