Angola's sovereign fund buys stake in credit bureau

The Fundo Soberano de Angola will add a board member to Bureau, a private credit information company.

The Fundo Soberano de Angola (FSDEA) has become a shareholder in Bureau, a private company established to promote Angola's economic development. Bureau aims to reduce information asymmetry, minimize default rates, and promote financial education to improve access to credit for Angolans.

Bureau, legally established by Presidential Decree nÂș 275/20 and licensed by the Data Protection Agency, collects, processes, and analyzes financial and consumption behavior data. This information assists companies in making more rigorous credit decisions, potentially leading to lower interest rates and increased competition in the credit market.

The partnership, formalized through a subscription agreement on June 4, signifies a new phase of institutional consolidation and growth for Bureau. The inclusion of an FSDEA-designated administrator on Bureau's Board of Directors will strengthen its corporate governance.

Why it mattersAngolan citizens and businesses will benefit from improved access to credit and potentially lower interest rates due to the Fundo Soberano de Angola's investment in Bureau.
