Angolan NGOs demand electoral probe
Three civil society groups asked prosecutors to investigate alleged failures in the voter registration process.
Angolan non-governmental organizations HANDEKA, UYELE, and MOSAICO have requested the Public Prosecutor's Office to open a judicial inquiry into the Ministry of Territorial Administration.
The groups cited the ministry's alleged failure to provide clarifications since June regarding the unofficial electoral registration process for next year's general elections. They also seek independent audits of the citizen database and financial accounts related to the 'proof of life' operation.
The NGOs argue that electoral registration transparency is a demand of a democratic state, not a political concession, and they are committed to ensuring the credibility of the electoral process through legal means.
Why it mattersAngolan citizens are directly affected by the transparency and integrity of the electoral registration process for upcoming general elections.
