IFC pledges more investment in Angola
The International Finance Corporation aims to boost private sector financing in agriculture and finance.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) plans to increase its investment in Angola, focusing on the financial sector, small and medium enterprises, and agriculture. Makhtar Diop, the IFC's director-general, announced this on Tuesday in Luanda during the Africa Financial Summit 2026. This move signifies a significant expansion of the IFC's presence in the Angolan market.
Diop highlighted the Lobito Corridor's potential to support businesses beyond mineral transport, including agricultural products and other goods. The IFC seeks to assist companies that can use the corridor to develop value chains and stimulate economic activity along the logistics route. The institution is also in contact with entities in the banking, agricultural, and livestock sectors for potential financing agreements.
The IFC's strategy includes evaluating new investment possibilities through meetings with agricultural sector operators, as directed by the minister responsible for Economic Coordination. The goal is to enhance private sector participation in Angola's economic development by promoting national production, company creation, and economic diversification.
Why it mattersAngolan businesses in the financial, agricultural, and livestock sectors will be evaluated for new financing agreements and investment opportunities.
