The Jonas Savimbi Foundation highlighted the founder's historical and political journey, emphasizing his commitment to Angolan identity and cultural origins. IsaĆas Samakuva, former UNITA leader, stated that understanding Savimbi's path means understanding the struggle against Portuguese colonial rule, as Savimbi believed freedom had to be won, not given.

Samakuva further noted that Savimbi's nationalism extended beyond military action, viewing war as a tool for peace, and pointed to Savimbi's diplomatic involvement in Angolan independence, citing the Alvor and Bicesse Accords as demonstrations of his negotiation skills. Manuel Savinhemba also spoke, highlighting Savimbi's role in valuing Angolans and including those historically marginalized.

The foundation stressed Savimbi's vision of independence as more than just a flag or government, but as a state built on social justice, inclusion, and economic autonomy for better living conditions for all citizens. Samakuva argued that true freedom requires addressing deep social and economic inequalities, ensuring national wealth benefits everyone, not just a few.
