Burkina Faso to award 21 football honours

The fourth annual Night of Women's Football will celebrate local and diaspora players on November 27.

Burkina Faso will host the fourth Night of Women's Football on November 27, 2026, in Ouagadougou. The event, organised by Aïsport, aims to recognise the achievements of female footballers, coaches, and administrators. 21 awards, including honours for best player, best goalkeeper, and top scorer, will be presented.

Bal Aïcha Zerbo, the event's promoter, stated the night aims to energise those promoting women's football and challenge past reluctance from parents to let daughters play the sport. A jury will select the award recipients, and preparations are currently 85% complete, with partnerships still being finalised.

Last year, Pascaline Sawadogo, goalkeeper for USFA, received the "golden player" award among 19 distinctions. Sawadogo noted that hard work by stakeholders is changing perceptions, enabling players to pursue professional careers abroad and earn a living from the sport, similar to men.

Why it mattersFemale footballers in Burkina Faso and those playing abroad will be recognised for their contributions to the sport.
