More than 150 experts from 15 countries convened in Ouagadougou to discuss securing supply chains and boosting economic sovereignty.
Ouagadougou is hosting the 5th edition of Translog Africa 2026, an international symposium focused on transport and logistics. The event, organized by the Burkinabè Shippers' Council, brings together over 150 experts from 15 African and European countries to find endogenous solutions for facilitating goods transport. Discussions center on securing flows, digitalization, corridor performance, infrastructure financing, and logistics' role in African industrialization.
The symposium's opening, attended by Burkina Faso's President Ibrahim Traoré's representative, emphasized the critical need for resilient logistics in a volatile global environment. Speakers highlighted that geopolitical tensions and maritime route disruptions expose economic vulnerabilities, making crisis resilience a key performance indicator alongside cost and time. For landlocked Burkina Faso, secure and efficient corridors are vital for economic competitiveness and sovereignty.
The discussions aim to identify concrete responses to current transport and logistics challenges, moving beyond mere transit to develop corridors as axes for development and regional integration. Experts are exploring how to transform Africa's logistics chains to anticipate global changes, foster innovation, and strengthen economic sovereignty, with a view to improving the positioning of African economies within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Why it mattersInvestors are affected by the focus on improving logistics infrastructure and reducing administrative constraints to boost the competitiveness of Burkinabè companies.
