Burundi football league kicks off with regional rivalries
The 2026 football season opened with matches pitting clubs from different regions against each other.
The Burundi football league began on Thursday, October 29, with Inter Stars from Bujumbura playing Olympic Star from Muyinga at Stade Urunani.
The opening match represented a clash between the capital city club, Inter Stars, and Olympic Star, a team travelling from the far north of the country.
The league continued on Friday, October 30, with Young Star FC facing Panthère Noir FC at Ingoma, and Vital’O FC playing Messager Ngozi at Stade Urunani.
