Burundi investor launches solar car charging station

Electric vehicles offer Burundi economic and environmental benefits by reducing fuel imports and emissions.

Electric vehicles are increasingly seen in Burundi, offering economic advantages by reducing the need for imported fuel and saving the country's foreign currency. Rémy Marie Nkurunziza stated that these vehicles do not pollute the atmosphere and produce zero greenhouse gas emissions, unlike fossil fuel cars that release carbon dioxide.

The shift to electric cars also presents energy benefits, as Burundi can utilize its own abundant solar and hydroelectric power sources instead of importing energy. An investor has already established a solar-powered charging station in Bujumbura, an initiative Nkurunziza described as positive and encouraging for the region's clean energy transition.

Nkurunziza believes that the installation of charging stations can help Burundi reduce its dependence on traditional fuels in the medium term. He also emphasized that importing new technology requires importing the necessary skills to operate and maintain it.

Why it mattersBurundians will benefit from reduced fuel costs and cleaner air due to the adoption of electric vehicles.
